Rivas
Rivas is located in the region of the Pacific of Nicaragua. Essentially a 12 mile wide isthmus, easily crossed by foot, which divides the Pacific Ocean from Lake Nicaragua, it has been strategically important for hundreds of years.
Rivas extends into Lake Nicaragua, and therefore contains the breathtakingly beautiful Ometepe Island with its twin volcanoes. Also in the Department of Rivas is the Pacific port city of San Juan del Sur, one of the most visited tourist points more of Nicaragua. Its beautiful beaches are frequented by thousands of people during summer and it is visited regularly by cruise ships whose passengers visit the Pacific coast of Nicaragua, Ometepe Island, and historical cities like Granada and Masaya.
