Masaya
The smallest department of country but the most densely populated, Masaya is located in Nicaragua's Pacific region. Also known as the City of the Flowers, it boasts some of Nicaragua's richest historical, cultural, and archaeological wealth. Evidence shows that Masaya has been inhabited by humans for thousands of years.
The still active Masaya Volcano, colorful Laguna Masaya, many small pueblos such as Catarina and Nindiri, and the sapphire blue Laguna Apoyo give Masaya a charm all its own. It is also a heart of commercial activity fueled by its proximity to Managua and the fact that it is virtually impossible to travel to south of Nicaragua without passing over one of its flower lined roads.
