Chinandega
Founded in 1858, the department of Chinandega is located in the northwestern Pacific region of Nicaragua.
Chinandega has a great historical and cultural wealth. Evidence of its population by indigenous tribes goes back for thousands of years.
After colonization and later independence, Chinandega became an agricultural center, producing cotton, oranges, and lemons. It is now one of Nicaragua's prime producers of shrimp, sugar, and rum; and its beautiful beaches are an excellent place to visit for a few days, or if you have time, a few months.
